District play heated up as Apollo got their revenge on Owensboro Catholic while handing them their first district loss in the process. Daviess County secured their first district win after taking down Owensboro, and Trinity had a tough trip on the road as they were defeated by Butler County.
AHS 8, OCHS 1
Apollo and Owensboro Catholic faced off again in district play, but this time it was Apollo who came out on top 8-1. With this win the Eagles are now 2-1 in district play and the Aces are 3-1.
OCHS struck first in the opening inning with their sole run of the game. Apollo tied it back up with a run of their own in the second before a 5-run performance in the third inning gave them a 6-1 lead. Owensboro Catholic fought to cut into the lead, but AHS held them back while they extended their lead with 2 runs in the fifth. The Eagles took the win 8-1.
On the mound for the Eagles was Carter Kimmel who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 7 innings. Ty Lillpop had a big game at the plate as he hit 2 doubles, had 3 hits, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Gunnar Hendricks had 2 RBIs and scored one run, and Michael Chaney had 2 RBIs as well. Garrett Lanham had 1 RBI, 2 hits and scored 1 run. Brock Burger scored a run on the night as well.
On the mound for the Aces was Barrett Evans who had 1 strikeout in 3 innings, Brady Prusz who had 2 strikeouts in 3 innings and Myles Grant who pitched for 1 inning. At the plate, Houston Flynn had 2 hits and scored the lone run. Parker Heistand had 2 hits and Deuce Sims hit a triple for his hit.
DCHS 9, OHS 3
Daviess County picked up their first district win of the season by taking down Owensboro 9-3. After this win the Panthers sit 1-2 in district and the Red Devils are 1-3.
Owensboro got things moving early with a run in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, Daviess County took the lead with 3 runs in the third. They added another run in the fourth before OHS scored 2 in the fifth to cut the lead down to just 1 at 4-3. DC held off Owensboro in the sixth before taking the game in the seventh with 5 runs. The final score was 9-3.
On the mound for the Panthers was Logan Mewes who racked up 9 strikeouts across 4.2 innings, and Carter Nichols had 4 strikeouts in 2.1 innings. At the plate, Noah Ranburger hit a double, had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run. Brody Brubaker had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs, and Lucas Ward, Cameron Rickard and Nichols all had 1 RBI and 1 scored run. Sean Page and Gavin Howard both had 1 RBI, and Brett Pool scored 1 run. Rickard, Ward, Ranburger and Page all hit doubles as well.
On the mound for the Red Devils Cayden Ray who racked up 7 strikeouts in 4 innings, Will Rickard who had 3 strikeouts in 2.2 innings and Will Hume who pitched for .1 innings. At the plate, Blake Kimbrell hit a double and had 2 RBIs, and Ray, Rickard and Evan Hampton all scored 1 run.
Butler Co. 12, THS 0
Trinity had a rough trip to Butler County as they were defeated 12-0.
Butler opened the game with a run in the first inning. After holding Butler scoreless in the second, the Raiders took a huge blow in the third as Butler scored 10 runs to run away with the lead. Butler scored 1 run in the fourth, and Trinity couldn’t cut into the lead before the game was called at 12-0.
On the mound for the Raiders was Carson Fitzgerald who had 2 strikeouts in 3 innings and Rylan Cecil who had 1 strikeout in 1 inning. Cale Boarman and Brady McBrayer both had 1 hit at the plate.
