District play raged on as Apollo narrowly took down Owensboro and Daviess County defeated Owensboro Catholic. Meanwhile, Trinity had an intense game against Butler County that saw them secure a win on home turf.
AHS 4, OHS 3
Apollo successfully defended a 1-run lead in the final inning to beat Owensboro 4-3. After this game the E-gals are 1-2 in district with the Lady Red Devils sitting 0-3.
Apollo took an early lead with 2 runs in the first inning. Both teams held one another scoreless for the next two innings before AHS extended their lead with a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth. Owensboro put themselves back in the game with a big 3-run performance in the sixth inning. Apollo failed to score to close out the game, so they fought to hold OHS scoreless in the seventh to secure the 4-3 win.
On the mound for the E-gals was Mollie Julian, who had 5 strikeouts across 5 innings, and Hannah Holder, who had 2 strikeouts in 2 innings. Tyler Hall and Liza Page both hit a home run, and Hall had 2 RBIs with 1 scored run while Page had 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Taylor Clark and Abbie Butterworth both scored 1 run each, and Macy Calhoun hit a double as well.
Railey Scott pitched 5 innings for the Lady Red Devils and Alyssa Rhineburger pitched for 2 innings. Haley Sikes had 2 RBIs and Rhineburger had 1 RBI. Addison Hill hit a triple and scored 1 run, and Ellington Embry scored 1 run as well.
DCHS 5, OCHS 1
Daviess County remains undefeated in district play after they defeated Owensboro Catholic 5-1. DC are now 3-0 while OCHS are 2-1 in district.
The game started off evenly as the first inning was scoreless. The Lady Panthers struck first in the second inning with a single run. They gradually extended their lead with 2 runs in the third inning and 2 runs in the fourth. Owensboro Catholic got on the board in the seventh inning, but it was too late as DCHS secured the 5-1 win.
Sophia Cain and Kamryn Timmons combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound for the Lady Panthers while only allowing 4 hits. Sadie Morris had a big game at the plate as she hit a home run, a double, had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Callie Smith, Molly Hancock and Briley Henry all had 1 RBI. Shelby Bennett and Kylie Clark both scored 1 run as well.
On the mound for the Lady Aces was Hannah Robbins who recorded 4 strikeouts across 7 innings. Robbins had 1 RBI, Kailey Hamilton hit a double and Tyranda Stuart scored the lone run.
THS 13, Butler Co. 10
Trinity had a thrilling 13-10 victory at home over Butler County that saw them make an incredible comeback in the sixth inning.
Both teams started off strong as Trinity held a 4-3 lead at the end of the first inning. Butler tied the game with 1 run in the second inning before both teams went scoreless in the third. Butler took the lead in the fourth with 2 runs. Trinity fell into a bad position when Butler scored 4 runs in the fifth to take the score to 10-4. The Lady Raiders took the game in style as they had an impressive 9-run performance in the sixth inning to take the lead and the game at 13-10.
Sophie Hatfield pitched for 4.1 innings and recorded 7 strikeouts. Ella Morris pitched for 2.2 innings and had 3 strikeouts to help hold back Butler in the seventh inning. Sophie Hatfield also hit a home run, had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Morris hit a double, had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run. Sarah Payne had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs, and Madison McDaniel, Emma Whitehouse, Kylie Hatfield and Kendall Howard all scored 2 runs as well. Kendall Howard, Georgia Howard, Kylie Hatfield and Whitehouse all had 1 RBI also. Whitehouse had 2 big hits at the plate as well with a triple and a double.
