Softball recap (April 9): AHS, DCHS, OCHS

Owensboro Catholic fell in the title game of the All “A” Classic while Daviess County and Apollo went head-to-head in district play.

DCHS 7, AHS 1

Daviess County added another district win to their tally with a comfortable 7-1 win over Apollo. 

Both teams’ defenses worked hard early on as there were only 3 hits and no runs scored in the first three innings. The Lady Panthers found big success in the fourth inning as they scored 5 runs to take a comfortable lead. After holding Apollo scoreless in the fifth, DC extended their lead with two more runs across the sixth and seventh innings. Apollo scored 1 in the bottom of the seventh, but DCHS took the win 7-1. 

Sophia Cain pitched all 7 innings for the Lady Panthers and recorded 7 strikeouts. Makayla Rowan hit a double and had 2 RBIs while Molly Hancock had 1 RBI. Annie Newman and Briley Henry both had an RBI and scored 1 run each. Danielle Beckworth scored 2 runs as well. 

For the E-gals, Mollie Julian recorded 1 strikeout on the mound. Taylor Clark hit a solo home run to score Apollo’s lone run. 

Hancock Co. 8, OCHS 0

Owensboro Catholic were defeated 8-0 by Hancock County in the championship game of the All “A” Classic. 

The first three innings went scoreless as neither team could gain an advantage. Hancock took the lead in the fourth with 2 runs while Catholic struggled to find success at the plate. OCHS continued to fight on, but Hancock scored 3 runs in the sixth and 3 in the seventh to clinch the All “A” title. 

Hannah Robbins had 2 strikeouts on the mound. Hannah Tignor had Catholic’s only hit of the game with a double.
