Softball recap (May 16): AHS, DCHS, OHS, OCHS, THS

Trinity wrapped up their season while Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic all played their second to last games. Apollo and Daviess County both secured wins while Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic and Trinity all suffered defeats.

AHS 3, Breckinridge Co. 2

Apollo hosted Breckinridge at home where they came out on top in a close 3-2 win. Stats for the E-gals are currently unavailable.

DCHS 12, Booneville, IN 0

Daviess County traveled to Indiana where they took on Booneville, and they pulled off a dominant 12-0 win. The Lady Panthers finished their regular season with an impressive 23-6 record.

The game started out evenly as neither team scored in the first inning. The Lady Panthers took a big lead in the second after scoring 6 runs. After a scoreless third, DC added 1 run in the fourth and 1 in the fifth to put the score at 8-0. They put the nail in the coffin with 4 more runs in the sixth to close out the win at 12-0. 

On the mound for the Lady Panthers was Kamryn Timmons who racked up 11 strikeouts and only allowed 1 hit across 5 innings and Sophia Cain had 1 strikeout across 1 inning. At the plate, Annie Newman led the team with a home run, 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Sadie Morris also hit a home run and had 3 RBIs, 3 hits, and 3 runs scored. Kylie Clark hit a double, had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs, Makayla Rowan had 1 RBI with 2 runs scored and Molly Hancock had 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Jaycee Noffsinger had 1 RBI, and Danielle Beckwith scored 1 run. 

Muhlenberg Co. 6, OHS 0 

Owensboro played away at Muhlenberg County where they suffered a 6-0 defeat. 

The first two innings saw neither side take the lead, but Muhlenberg scored 1 run in the third to gain the advantage. OHS struggled to get on the board, and Muhlenberg took the opportunity to add another run in the fourth before scoring 4 final runs in the fifth. Owensboro were held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, and Muhlenberg took the win at 6-0. 

Alyssa Rhineburger was on the mound for the Lady Red Devils, and she had 2 strikeouts and allowed 9 hits across 6 innings. Addison Hill hit a double and had 1 hit, and Hessi Johnson, Hayley Sikes and Rhineburger all had 1 hit each. 

Henderson Co. 15, OCHS 0

Owensboro Catholic hosted Henderson County at home where the Lady Aces suffered a 15-0 blowout. 

Henderson scored 2 runs in the opening inning before jumping ahead with 9 runs in the second. Catholic struggled to get things moving on offense and Henderson capitalized with 4 runs in the fourth inning to close out the game at 15-0. 

On the mound for the Lady Aces was Hannah Robbins who had 1 strikeout and allowed 8 hits across 1.1 innings and Maren Riney who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 7 hits across 2.2 innings. 

Union Co. 9, THS 6

Trinity closed out their regular season with an unfavorable 9-6 defeat against Union County. The Lady Raiders finished the regular season with a record of 15-9. 

Union County opened the scoring with 2 runs in the first inning. They added 3 more runs to their lead before Trinity got on the board with 3 runs in the top of the third. The bottom of the inning saw Union score 2 more runs to put the score at 7-3. THS cut into the gap with 2 runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead down to just 2 runs, but Union got those two runs in the sixth. Trinity tried to take the win in the final inning, but they were shut down after scoring just 1 run. Union took the win at 9-6. 

On the mound for the Lady Raiders was Sophie Hatfield who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 9 hits across 5 innings, and Ella Morris who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 1 hit across 1 inning. At the plate, Hatfield and Morris both hit a double and had 2 RBIs. Kendall Howard hit a double and had 1 RBI, and Sarah Payne and Madison McDaniel both scored 2 runs. Emma Whitehouse scored 1 run as well.
