Trinity (Whitesville) almost shot their opponents out of the gym, while Daviess County and Hancock County both fell short.
Taylor County 62, Daviess County 54
Despite coming back from an early deficit, the Panthers couldn’t close it out down the stretch, falling to Taylor County 62-54 in the Wincity Holiday Classic. DeAaron Watkins led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while Jonathan Moss added 12 points, eight assists two rebounds, and one steal. Ayden Ayer finished second on the team in scoring with 13 points while Joe Varble grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
“We got off to a slow start and Taylor County shot it really well by making nine threes,” Daviess County head coach Neil Hayden said. “I’m proud of our guys for battling back to take the lead, but we didn’t figure out how to close the game.”
Breckinridge County 76, Hancock County 46
The Hornets were unable to slow down Breckinridge’s high-powered offensive, falling 76-46 at home.
“I thought our effort and intensity was solid throughout the entire game, Hancock County head coach Josh Roberts said. “We played hard and never gave up and still haven’t reached our season and continue to improve. Despite having a key starter and our sixth man out, we battled through it using our bench guys. I love our guys and the toughness we have, and I am super thankful for them. Credit to Breckinridge, they are a well-coached team with a ton of talent.”
Trinity (Whitesville) 81, Carroll County 55
The Raiders couldn’t seem to miss from deep, sinking 16 threes to power them to an 81-55 win over Carroll County in the Marion County Christmas Tournament. Will Hernadez scored a game-high 28 points including six threes, while Hayden Aull (18 points, 4 three-pointers) and Connor Hatfield (10 points, 1 three-pointer) both also scored in double-digits.
