It was almost a clean sweep for Owensboro Catholic at the 3rd Region individual tennis championships as they took home both boys and girls doubles and girls’ singles titles. Ella Cason won her fifth straight singles Regional Championship, while Lexi Moyers and Madison Clark took down fellow Lady Aces Meredith Traylor and Sophia Merchant in the finals. The boys doubles finals were also an all Aces matchup, with top seed Houston Danzer and Joseph Merchant taking down Ollie Haines and Henry Haines.

“I am very proud of all our players tonight,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Noel Clayton said. “We hope to continue to play well tomorrow in the Team Regional.”

Daviess County’s Landon McDuffee fell to top seed Brayden Johnson, pushing him to tiebreakers.

“I am so proud of him, he has taken a huge jump this year,” Daviess County head coach Dylan McDuffee said. “It felt as if every single day he took a small step forward, and this was the closest he has ever played Johnson. We are hoping that by next year, he will be able to take it to him. I couldn’t be prouder of how far he has come, and I am excited I have two more years left with him.”

After the finals, it was announced Apollo’s Sophey Jennings, Owensboro Catholic’s Danzer and Cason, and Hancock County’s Preston Blanton won the prestigious Luke Woodward Sportsmanship Awards.

Hancock County head coach Dan Hopkins had nothing but high praise for Blanton – his top doubles team anchor and someone he referred to as a clubhouse leader, great encourager, and intense competitor.

Hopkins continued, “It’s been a joy to work with and coach Preston the last two years at Hancock County,”.
