Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) won their opening district tournament games to punch their tickets in their respective championship games and 3rd Region Tournament, while McLean County saw their season come to an end.
Hancock County 13, Breckinridge County 3
Tied 0-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Hornets scored eight runs to break the game open, beating Breckenridge County 13-3 to advance to the 11th District Championship. Baylee Estes, Aubree Mosby, Audrey Carnes, and Madyson Higdon combined for seven hits and eight RBIs, while Ansley House and Ryleigh French both drove in runs. French threw a complete game in the circle, allowing three runs over six innings, striking out four.
“This was a good win for us,” Hancock County head coach Dwayne Wroe said. “Anytime in postseason, you can’t take anything for granted on how the regular season games turned out. Our one goal was to go up there and get a win, which puts us in the 3rd Region Tournament. We got off to a slow start, but finally broke through with eight runs in the third. The bottom of our lineup was really productive tonight, and our leadoff, Baylee Estes, reached base multiple times.”
Ohio County 15, McLean County 0
The Lady Cougars allowed 10 runs in the bottom of the first and never fully recovered, losing to Ohio County 15-0 in the opening round of the 10th District Tournament. Leah Searcy went 1-1 with a walk, while Brooklyn Whitworth had the team’s only other hit. Ava McCarty allowed two earned runs over 1/3 of an inning, while Macie Geel pitched in relief.
Trinity (Whitesville) 5, Grayson County 1
Sophie Hatfield threw a complete game, allowing one unearned run over seven innings to power the Lady Raiders past Grayson County 5-1 and advance to the 12th District Championship. Sarah Payne, Ella Morris, Aubree McKinney, and Hatfield all drove in runs, while Kendall Howard went 2-4.
“I am super proud of the way our girls played tonight,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Jessica Morris said. “They came out with something to prove after losing in the first-round last year, and they bounced back with heart. It was a complete team effort. Everyone contributed and played for each other, and that is what made the difference.”
