Windy Hollow Raceway Park is gearing up for a full weekend of racing May 2-4, featuring three days of events at both the dragway and speedway.
Festivities begin Friday at Windy Hollow Dragway with a Test-N-Tune session from 6:30-10:30 p.m., offering participants unlimited passes on the 1/8-mile strip. The night will also include a Trophy Race at 8 p.m., with a $100 bonus if at least 10 cars are entered.
On Saturday, the dragway will host the inaugural Jr. Royal event, highlighting the Junior Dragster division. The winner will take home $1,000, with $500 going to the runner-up and $50 awarded to semi-finalists. The day also marks the launch of the WDRA Summit Sportsman Bracket Racing Series, which includes Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Factory Street, Trophy, Motorcycle, and Junior Dragster classes.
“We are excited to have bracket racing return to the drag strip,” said track promoter Trevor Hutchins. “We really want to spotlight our Junior Dragsters this weekend. These kids race all over the country, mostly for trophies. We want to pay them some big money this weekend. If I were 10 years old, and won a grand … I would think I am on top of the world.”
Sunday’s action shifts to Windy Hollow Speedway, which opens its season with a Star Wars-themed event in honor of “May the 4th Be With You.” Fans wearing Star Wars apparel will receive $1 off admission, and the Western Kentucky Saber Guild will perform during intermission.
The on-track program includes $1,000 to win in the Economies division, along with races in Street Stock, Rusty Bolt, Mini Stock, Bomber, Crate Late Model, and Crown Vic Oval classes. Ride-alongs in retired NASCAR cars, sponsored by Tommy Fischer, will also be available during intermission.
“We have made a lot of improvements to the Speedway from reconfiguring the banking, a barrier in turns 3 and 4, and a new front stretch fence, to name a few,” Hutchins said.
Primitive camping is available Friday and Saturday nights for those looking to spend the weekend at the track.
