Daviess County made a loud statement Friday night, dominating Russellville 45-6 on the road at Logan County High School to earn its first victory of the season and the first win under new head coach Quadarius Wallace.

The Panthers, who managed just one win last season, controlled the game from start to finish with a balanced effort on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback Garrison Barker threw for a touchdown and added a rushing score, while senior Jace Hunt accounted for three touchdowns: one rushing, one receiving, and one on special teams.

“It feels amazing when all the work you put in comes to fruition,” Wallace said. “I’m super proud and pumped for our guys.”

Daviess County jumped out to a 15-0 lead by halftime behind a Ridge Roberts rushing touchdown and Barker’s scoring strike to Hunt. The Panthers’ defense held Russellville scoreless until the closing moments of the first half.

Hunt broke the game open early in the third quarter with a 50-yard touchdown run and later added a 70-yard punt return for a score. Barker’s designed quarterback run and another Roberts touchdown capped the decisive stretch as Daviess County forced a running clock midway through the second half.

“The team played well in all three phases,” Wallace said. “I couldn’t be more proud to be their head coach.”

Roberts led the Panthers with 175 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Barker threw for 150 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 76 yards and another score. Hunt added 56 rushing yards, 65 receiving yards, and a 70-yard punt return touchdown.

Wallace said the Panthers still have room to sharpen up as they move forward.

“We have to limit turnovers and penalties,” he said. “We pride ourselves on discipline and consistency, and we can’t have mental mistakes.”

The Panthers (1-0) will look to carry the momentum into next week when they continue non-district play against cross-town foe Owensboro Catholic at home.
