Competing at Ben Hawes Golf Course, Daviess County shot 312 to take home the City-County Championship. Owensboro Catholic finished second, shooting 355, while Owensboro shot 420. The City-County match was broken up into two days, with the teams shooting the front nine on Monday and the back nine on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers’ Claire Reynolds shot 69 to win the individual, while Kennedi Minton finished third, shooting 79. Baylie Billingsley (5th, 81) and Briley Billingsley (6th, 83) rounded out the team’s top four scores. Daviess County will have a few days to regroup before preparing for the All-State tournament this weekend.
“I want them to treat City County like region and state prep,” Daviess County Head Coach Jonas Billingsley said. “Take it seriously hole to hole and focus on the next shot. It can be hard at times out here at these matches to stay focused because the girls all know each other, so they can start chit-chatting. I just want them to stay focused.”
Hannah Robbins led the way for the Lady Aces, shooting 76 and finishing second in the individual. Addiedelle Rutman (85), Emma Lanham (91), and Ava Settles (103) rounded out the team’s top four scores. Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Easten Henry was pleased with his team’s performance and wants them to believe that they belong.
“From a basic standpoint of where were at, I am thrilled with them,” Henry said. “I think they are starting to become more competitive. Before, they liked playing golf and being on the team, but now I believe they are getting little wins before, and they want to continue that.”
Owensboro’s Ryann Kasey shot 81 and finished fourth in the individual, while Olive Harrison (111), Hampton Gaddis (112), and Avery Martin (116) rounded out the team’s top four scores. Entering City-County, Owensboro Head Coach Bryan Kasey wanted his team to have a positive experience and prove to themselves they can get through the grind of 18 holes.
Trinity (Whitesville) and Apollo both had one athlete in attendance, with Rylie Hayden shooting 124 for the Lady Raiders and Caitlyn Cecil shooting 127 for the E-Gals.
In only her second year of high school golf, Apollo Head Coach Emily Lyons just wants Cecil to be proud of her own performance.
“I want her to realize that again, this is only her second year as a junior,” Lyons said. “Golf is already so hard to start. especially in high school. “Usually, the kids in high school who are really good started in elementary school. So I just want her to walk away proud of herself and see that she improved so much. I want her to also set a goal for herself for how much she will improve next year if she continues.”
