Competing in Owensboro Bowling Association’s first annual High School Crown Invitational over the weekend, Daviess County boys beat Apollo in the Championship match. Alongside Apollo, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, Henderson, Ohio County, and Valor Christian Academy, the seven total schools played multiple matches for seeding, with the Panthers securing the top spot after shooting 2,368 across 12 games.
“I think the boys are setting their sights high this year and they’re prepared to capture their goal,” Daviess County girls’ Head Coach Casey Carroll said. “We’ve been working hard the last few seasons, and they’ve been putting the work in during the offseason. “
Owensboro Catholic beat Valor Christian Academy in the opening match, before losing to Ohio County. Ohio County then fell to Henderson County, who also beat Owensboro in the fourth round. In the semi-finals, Apollo beat the Colonels, setting up a finals match against Daviess County.
In the finals, the Panthers won 2-0, taking both baker games 192-178 and 220-178. Freshman Lucas Tincher led the team with a 232 and 202, while senior Jaxson Unsel (214 and 194), junior Evan Onstott (204 and 192), and sophomore Kason Smith (192 and 221) all had impressive performances.
“I believe they showed that they will be able to compete very well against all the teams here locally and in the region,” Daviess County Coach Jimmy Caroll said. “With us returning the majority of the team from last year and adding some good new pieces, we will be a top team this year and for several years moving forward.”
