It was an off night for the local teams as both Apollo and Owensboro Catholic fell short.

Muhlenberg County 54, Apollo 37

Aubrey Johnson filled the stat sheet, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the E-Gals 54-37 loss to Muhlenberg County. LaShay Vera scored eight of her 10 points in the second half, while Mattingly Taylor and Emersyn Bullington combined for nine points and 15 rebounds.

“It was a close game for most of the night,” Apollo Head Coach Mike Riggs said. “Coach Groves’s team played well. Their senior forward is tough, and we had a difficult time keeping their guards from getting straight drives. Now we go back to the drawing board this week. We have a lot of fixable issues on both sides of the ball to work on.”

Castle (Newburgh), IN 70, Owensboro Catholic 46

Traveling to Indiana, Owensboro Catholic was unable to handle a first-quarter barrage that saw Castle sink six threes.

“Castle played really well tonight,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Michael Robertson said. “They shot the ball extremely well and handled our pressure. They were a lot more physical than us and we will need to get better in that category.”
