Leading 34-12 at halftime, Apollo was able to hold off Owensboro’s thunderous second-half comeback attempt, winning 70-50. Landon Henning found his stride early, scoring nine of his team-high 17 points in the first half and Tre Haskins scored five of his six points. Tate Powers added 13 points, Sam Butterworth scored 11 points, and Eli Williams had 10 points.
“I give Owensboro a lot of credit,” Apollo Head Coach Ryne Tinsley said. “They fought hard to cut into the lead in the second half. I am proud of our guys, but we are definitely looking forward and getting back in the gym.”
In the second half, Owensboro found its stride, behind Kade Arnold scoring 14 of his 17 points. DaMarcus Ganaway Jr. hit a pair of threes and finished with 15 points, and Tre Shemwell recorded six points.
Lady Devils take down Apollo
Riding the three ball, Owensboro hit seven threes en route to a 50-38 win over Apollo. Adrean Carothers scored all of her game-high 18 points in the last three quarters, and Unique Carter-Swanagan added 12 points. Avery Martin hit a pair of threes to go along with her 11 points, and Abby Sapp rounded out the team’s scoring with nine points.
Emersyn Bullington led the way for the E-Gals with 13 points, and Aubrey Johnson hit three threes to go along with her 11 points.
Owensboro returns to action on Monday when they travel to McLean County, and Apollo hosts Glasgow later today.
