Owensboro Catholic held off Apollo in an important 9th District game, while Hancock County cruised past Cloverport. In other action, Trinity (Whitesville) fell just short to Muhlenberg County.
Owensboro Catholic 59, Apollo 47
Jake Murphy hit a pair of threes to go along with his 18 points as the Aces beat Apollo 59-47. Solly Smith scored eight of 14 points in the second half, and Dre’Mail Carothers added 12 points.
“I am proud of how we attacked their zone tonight,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Tabor Shadowen said. “We settled entirely too much the first time around against those guys. I thought we created better looks for each other tonight. We penetrated the zone well, waited for inside-out threes, and finished well around the rim in the second half.”
For the Eagles, Eli Williams led the way with 17 points, Kayden Green scored eight points, and Tate Powers finished with seven points.
Hancock County 80, Cloverport 29
Cooper Jones exploded for 26 points,12 rebounds, and four assists to power the Hornets past Cloverport 80-29. Mekhel London recorded a triple-double of 12 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, and Seth Hunt finished with 14 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
Muhlenberg County 67, Trinity (Whitesville) 61
Harrison Barnett overcame a scoreless first quarter, dropping 28 points over the last three quarters as the Raiders dropped a heartbreaker to Muhlenberg County 67-61. Mason Smith hit four threes to go along with his 14 points, and Ian Roby finished with 10 points.
“We missed a lot of makable shots early, and we had a lot of turnovers in the third quarter,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Nathan West said. “Harrison carried us in the second half, and Mason Smith carried the offensive load from the outside.”
