Kicking off the regular season, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both won, while Daviess County dropped a close one to Henderson County.
Henderson County 4, Daviess County 3
Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers brought the winning run to the plate but were unable to capitalize, falling to Henderson County. Bradyn Morris and Caden Embry both drove in runs, Ethan Vinson scored twice, and John Rue went 2-4. Weston Lawrence started on the mound, allowing one run over 3 2/3 innings, while Cameron Rickard struck out five over 3 1/3 innings.
Owensboro 5, Breckinridge County 3
Trailing 2-1 early, the Red Devils scored three runs in the third to take down Breckinridge County 5-3. Eli Hampton went 2-3 and scored three runs, Tay Ashley had the team’s lone RBI, and Jordan Quesnell went 2-3. On the mound, Nash Miller allowed one earned run over five innings, striking out six, while Jaxon Fogle threw two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Owensboro Catholic 2, Meade County 1
The Aces scored two runs in the top of the first and never looked back, closing out Meade County 2-1. Barrett Evans started on the mound and threw two scoreless innings, while Jaxon White, Lane Hundley, and Gentry Atwell combined to allow one run over five innings in relief, striking out seven.
At the plate, Evans went 1-2 with an RBI double, Jake Murphy went 1-3, and Alex Hood and Drew Miles had the team’s other two hits.
