Owensboro Bombers sweep Saturday doubleheader

Looking to bounce back from Friday’s 6-5 loss to Pontotoc, the Owensboro Bombers cruised past American Legion Post 237 15-1 and Columbia 9-6 to finish their doubleheader 2-0. Against American Legion Post 237, the Bombers jumped out to a 7-0 first-inning lead behind RBIs from Brody Brubaker, Jake Murphy, and Brett Poole.

Eli Hatfield doubled home Eli Hampton in the second to push the lead to 8-1, later scoring seven runs in the third to ice the game.

Hampton finished 2-3 with a homer, while Markell Yates, Poole, and Brubaker all drove in a pair of runs. Tucker started on the mound, allowing one earned run over 1 2/3 innings, while Jude Evans struck out three over 2 1/3 shutout innings.

In their win over Columbia, the Bombers found themselves in an early 4-1 hole, but responded with one run in the third, five runs in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth to complete the comeback.

Hampton continued his home run barrage, finishing 2-3 with a solo shot, while Brady Benjamin, Brubaker, Poole, and Yates all drove in runs. Tucker started on the mound, allowing three earned runs over two innings, while Myles Grant struck out four over three innings.
