Head Men’s Basketball Coach Drew Cooper has announced the signing star duo of Markel Aune and Kennedy Miles from Lawson State Community College.

“Markel can score in a variety of ways,” said Drew Cooper. “His FG% is great and he can shoot the heck out of the ball. He has the potential to impact the game offensively in the same way other undersized guards in our conference do, such as Jordan Roland and Darryl Straughter have.”

Markel Aune was third in all of JUCO last season in 3FG%, shooting an incredible 47.6% from behind the arc. He averaged 10.6 ppg and shot over 50% from the field.

“I chose Kentucky Wesleyan because of coach Cooper’s genuine and upstanding approach to me,” said Aune. “He was consistent with his communication towards me and really wants me to succeed. He spoke very highly of Kentucky Wesleyan’s campus and staff, and I’m extremely excited to get to campus this fall.”

Kennedy Miles is a true PG who began his career at Western Carolina as a freshman. Miles shot 40.6% from the field last season while averaging 7.6 ppg and 3.2 apg.

Drew Cooper said “I fell in love watching Kennedy because thrives and makes players around him better. He defines his success with how much he helps his teammates succeed. That, to me, is extraordinary and we certainly had room on our roster for a young man that can really pass, is deceptively athletics, shoots it well and wants to make others better.

“I chose KWC because of how many great things I heard about the program,” stated Miles. “I feel like Coach Cooper is a great person and it seemed like a great fit for me to become a part of this team. I can see KWC helping me achieve my dreams. I’m coming to look to get everyone involved and I believe the offense we are going to run will be very beneficial for me and my new teammates. I’m looking forward to the season and the rest of my years here.”

Lawson State Head Coach Stoff Carter stated “both Markel and Kennedy are both outstanding people, students, and athletes. It was a privilege to have the chance to coach them, and I know they will succeed at Kentucky Wesleyan. Markel is a knockdown shooter who can score at all levels, while Kennedy is a play-maker that makes everyone around him better. Both Markel and Kennedy were Academic All-Conference and made the dean’s list here at Lawson State.”

Incoming Montana State transfer Borja “Beezy” Fernandez is currently training with the Spanish U22 National Team. His 10-day training experience will be highlighted by two international friendly’s taking place on July 10th and 11th.

“This is a great opportunity to compete with and against pros of the first division of Spain and all throughout Europe,” said Beezy. “I’m learning a lot over here. Practices are hard, but we are building great team chemistry and are getting ready for these two friendly games. Overall it has been a great experience.”
