The RiverDawgs were unable to keep the bats going late, as Dubois County Bombers’ early offense led to a 7-2 loss for Owensboro on Wednesday.
Some first inning fireworks is what put Dubois County on the board first, as Xander Willis hit a one-out two-run bomb to left field to take a 2-0 lead. An RBI single in the bottom of the second followed by a run scoring on a wild pitch gave the Bombers some insurance runs, making it 4-0 going into the third.
A little bit of deja vu led to the exact same sequence in the bottom of the third making it 6-0, before Owensboro was finally able to crack the scoreboard. After an error to leadoff the top of the fourth and a double from Braden Mundy, another error on a grounder to second by JJ Arbini that led to a 6-2 ballgame.
But this was all the RiverDawgs could string together offensively, as the Bombers added on one more run and went on to grab a 7-2 win.
Dubois County’s pitching staff was clicking on all cylinders Wednesday, allowing just five six hits and not a single earned run. Meanwhile, Brandon Davis got the start for Owensboro and didn’t have his best stuff, allowing six earned runs, 10 hits, five walks and two strikeouts over six innings.
The loss is the RiverDawgs fifth straight, as they will look to bounce back when they return home on Thursday to host the Madisonville Miners at 6:30 p.m.
