The 9th district was a busy one with 18 goals scored on Tuesday, as Owensboro Catholic defeated Owensboro 9-0 and Daviess County defeated Apollo 9-0.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Owensboro
The Lady Aces grabbed their third straight district win on Tuesday, as their offense exploded for a 9-0 victory over Owensboro.
Junior Mallary Bailey grabbed four goals to lead Owensboro Catholic, while senior Maddie Hayden followed close behind with three and sophomore Aubrey Randolph and junior Annie Helwig chipped in one each. Senior Katie Riney led the way in assists with three, while junior Elizabeth Hayden dished out two and Bailey, Maddie and juniors Ginny Young and Jahaira Ward all added one each.
Despite the final outcome, senior keeper Chandler Worth made a whopping 19 saves for the Lady Devils in net. They fall to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in district play with the loss, as Owensboro will take a few days off before traveling to take on LaRue County at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Lady Aces move to 5-2-1 overall and 3-0 in district play after the win, as they will now take a week off to prepare for another district matchup with Apollo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Daviess County vs. Apollo
The Lady Panthers were able to secure the second best record in the district to this point in the season on Tuesday, rattling off nine goals in a shutout victory over Apollo.
Sophomore Kate McCain led Daviess County’s offense with a pair of goals, while seven different Daviess County players grabbed one each. The Lady Panthers improve to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in district play, now looking ahead to their Thursday matchup with Henderson County at 7 p.m.
The E-gals on the other hand fall to 1-5 overall on the season and 0-3 in district play, while they now take a day off before playing its third straight road game against Muhlenberg County at 7 p.m.
