Apollo had its losing streak extended to four games on Saturday, while Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both tied in its respective matchups.
Apollo vs. University Heights
The Eagles soccer team’s struggles continued on Saturday, as they fell to University Heights 3-1 at home to close out the week.
Senior Long Belry supplied the loan goal of the day for Apollo, drawing a penalty kick on a handball and scoring in the 18th minute. The loss is the fourth straight for the Eagles—the third straight at home.
The Eagles will go back to the drawing board over the next few days, as they will be getting prepared for a district rematch with Owensboro at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Owensboro vs. Central Hardin
The Red Devils soccer team grabbed its second 1-1 tie of the season, as they took on Central Hardin to close out the week.
Junior Arlo Johnson added the only goal of the day for Owensboro on a penalty kick, while Kase VanBiijenburgh scored for Meade County on an assist from Jack Schall. Junior Alex Carpenter added five saves for the Red Devils, while Ayden Allen added five himself for Central Hardin.
Owensboro now sits at 3-2-2 overall on the season, as they now take a few days off before returning home to host Apollo at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Meade County
The Aces stayed undefeated on the road on Saturday, finding themselves in their third tie of the season with Meade County at 3-3.
The Green Waves had 13 shots with eight on goal, while Owensboro Catholic had 20 shots with 10 of them on goal. The Aces freshman Gene Johnson grabbed the first goal of the day, while senior Austin Martin had the final two to go with an assist from junior Brody Martin.
Senior Parker Jones also tallied five saves on the day, helping Owensboro Catholic earn the tie on the road. The Aces moved to 3-2-3 on the season with the tie, now taking a few days off before hitting the road again to take on Hopkins County Central at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
