Apollo volleyball grabbed a sweep over Muhlenberg County on Tuesday, while Owensboro Catholic bested Trinity (Whitesville) in three sets at home.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Trinity (Whitesville)
The Lady Aces ended Trinity’s 18-set winning streak on Tuesday night, stifling them in a 3-0 sweep at home (25-18, 26-24, 25-17).
Senior Abigail Williams led Owensboro Catholic’s offense with eight kills, while junior Blair Riney and sophomore Tyranda Stuart had four each and sophomore Olivia Castlen and senior Abby Baughman had three each. The Lady Aces also got 12 kills on the day, with seniors Emily Christian (4) and Kennedy Murphy (4) and Riney (3) combining for 11.
Christian also led the way defensively with 22 digs, while junior Karson Tipmore and Riney chipped in with 18 and 12 themselves. Owensboro Catholic improves to 3-4 overall with the win, as they will now take a day off before hosting Christian County at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Trinity on the other hand had its six-game winning streak snapped, falling to 10-4 overall on the season. Junior Hannah Nash led the way offensively with seven kills against the Lady Aces, while senior Josie Aull tallied 14 of the team’s assists.
Junior Georgia Howard and senior Abby Payne led the charge defensively, earning 13 and 10 digs on the day. The Lady Raiders will look to get back in the winners column on Thursday, taking on Edmonson County at 5:30 p.m.
Apollo vs. Muhlenberg County
The E-gals volleyball team grabbed its second straight victory on Tuesday, grabbing its fourth sweep of the season against Muhlenberg County (25-20, 25-9, 25-16).
Junior Jennifer Lee and freshman Elise Wilson led the way offensively with five kills each, while sophomore Ava Fazio followed close behind with four. Junior Ahalia Ramirez orchestrated the offense on the day, tallying all 14 of the team’s assists.
Juniors Ella Alvey and Kaley Dickinson led the way defensively with nine and eight digs respectively, while Lee had five blocks, Fazio had four and sophomores Macie King and Abbie Butterworth had three each.
Apollo improves to 5-6 overall with the win, as they will take a day off before another match against Grayson County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
