After suffering a tough loss to the Aces on the road in week four, Owensboro will look to bounce back in its third home game of the season when they host Breckinridge County.

The Red Devils fell to Owensboro Catholic on the road last week, marking the first time they’ve lost to them since 2018 and ending the 11-game city-county winning streak. Owensboro’s defense struggled to stifle sophomores Vince Carrico and Brady Atwell in the game, while senior Kenyatta Carbon led the offense with 89 yards on 22 carries.

But now almost a year removed from defeating the Fighting Tigers by 50, Owensboro has put in plenty of work in practice this week to help them to try and repeat such success.

“Concentration, effort, focus and humility [have been the biggest focal points in practice]…” Fallin said. “We need to be one week’s worth of work better than we were last week.”

Breckinridge County themselves are coming off a tough loss to Anderson County, having fallen 54-30. Fallin noted that they have struggled early on, but with the Fighting Tigers finally getting going offensively last week after three scoreless games to start the season they will be coming into Rash Stadium looking to make some noise.

“Breckinridge County has struggled early this season but are improving each week,” Fallin said. “They have a talented senior running back who makes them go offensively and they are very versatile on defense. We need to be aware of the situation and the variety of fronts and coverages they will show us.”

The Red Devils are looking to get back to being the team that gave St. Xavier a run for its money in week one and Fallin and company know that improving week-by-week is key. This matchup with Breckinridge County is no different.

“We have plenty to work on in all three phases of the game this week,” Fallin said. “We need to see consistent improvement as we move into our district schedule and the second half of the season.”

As long as Owensboro leaves it all out on the field and executes with precision, Fallin and company believe they can get back in the win column in front of their home crowd.
