The Lady Aces secured their spot in the All-A State Final on Sunday with a pair of wins on Saturday, while Owensboro scored 10 goals for the second straight game in a dominant win over McLean County.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Lexington Christian & Bishop Brossart
Owensboro Catholic girls soccer had a successful Saturday in Frankfort, grabbing a pair of wins against Lexington Christian and Bishop Brossart in the All-A State Tournament.
The Lady Aces were able to top Lexington Christian to start the day, advancing with a 2-1 win. Junior Ginny Young had both goals to lead the way, with assists from senior Maddie Hayden and sophomore Aubrey Randolph and 11 saves from junior keeper Abby Payne.
Owensboro Catholic’s defense held true in its second match of the day, topping Bishop Brossart 1-0. Young had the lone goal again for the Lady Aces on an assist by senior Rachel Traylor, while Payne was able to earn her 10th shutout of the season.
The Lady Aces now sit at 12-3-1 overall with the pair of wins and will play in the All-A State Final on Sunday.
Owensboro vs. McLean County
The Lady Devils grabbed their second straight 10-0 shutout on Saturday, stifling McLean County’s offense at home.
Junior Sydney Lovett led the way offensively, tallying four goals and three assists while senior keeper Chandler Worth was close behind with two goals and two assists. Sophomores Georgia Warren, Natalie Long, Karleigh Brown and senior Maddie Decker all had a goal in the match, while Long, Brown, sophomores Dominick Rosales, Rehema Heri and senior Emmy Roth all had an assist each.
Worth and junior Emma Wilkins handled the game in net, as both made a save in the shutout win that helped Owensboro improve to 7-9 overall going into its final regular season game with Madisonville-North Hopkins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29.
