Daviess County’s Grant Broughton’s season came to a close following the second round of the 2022 Boy’s Golf State Championship on Wednesday, finishing the year in a tie for 33rd.

Broughton didn’t have his strongest performance on day two, coming into the second round tied for 11th at (74). He shot an 81 on the day, finishing with an overall score of 155 (+11) to put him in a three-way tie for 33rd.

The Panther wasn’t pleased with his play on Wednesday, saying that he felt like he wasn’t able to exceed at one specific thing throughout the round.

“I was disappointed about today,” Broughton said. “I didn’t feel as if I had any strengths today. I wasn’t able to put my tee shots in good positions and I wasn’t able to rely on my chipping and putting to save any shots.”

Broughton went on to mention that he loves the Bowling Green Country Club, but that it is a very tough course and managing one’s way around it also is a tough mental challenge that he faced.

While he is pleased with parts of his season—including being able to compete deep into the postseason once again—Broughton isn’t happy with how he closed out the year and is ready to learn from it and come back next season even stronger.

“I have mixed feelings about my personal accomplishments this season,” Broughton said. “I’m very happy that I was able to make it all the way to State, but I’m unhappy about my rounds at the KGCA Championship and of course my final round at State. My plan for the offseason is to become more consistent and improve my short game.”
