Owensboro Catholic’s offense was too much for the Bears on Thursday night, as they were able to extend their winning streak to three games and remain undefeated by grabbing a 35-12 road victory.

The Aces wasted no time getting on the board, taking advantage of their game-opening drive. It was sophomore quarterback Brady Atwell that found junior Kaiser Frick for a 21-yard touchdown, before the PAT was nailed and made it 7-0 with 10:01 left in the first quarter.

That would be the lone score of the first quarter however, as Butler County finally got on the board shortly into the second with a one-yard run by senior Brody Hunt. However, Owensboro Catholic was able to block the extra point to stay out in front 7-6 with 10:05 left in the second.

The Aces were able to answer quickly as well with a touchdown of their own, as Atwell hit sophomore Vince Carrico for a nine-yard touchdown. Following the extra point, Owensboro Catholic owned a 14-6 lead with 8:54 left in the second quarter.

Atwell got involved defensively on the ensuing drive for the Bears, getting a pick at the 10 to give Owensboro Catholic some steam. But after Atwell hit sophomore Waryn Ebelhar for a big gain, the wide receiver fumbled it and Butler County got it back.

The Bears tried to capitalize on it quickly, trying to cut their deficit with a score before halftime. They were able to set junior Everson Padilla up for a 24-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the first half, but he missed and the Aces went into the locker room with a 14-6 lead.

Owensboro Catholic took advantage of this momentum coming out of halftime, as Vince Carrico came through again with a three-yard touchdown run to make it 20-6 Aces with 8:12 left in the third following the missed PAT. Then it was junior Tutt Carrico who caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Atwell minutes later, giving Owensboro Catholic a 27-6 lead going into the fourth.

Butler County was able to get on the board once more to start the fourth quarter, but the Aces immediately killed any chances of a comeback. First it was a safety from senior Tyler Simone that put Owensboro Catholic up 29-12, but it was a three-yard run by senior Jack Terry with 1:02 to play that all but wrapped up a 35-12 district win for Owensboro Catholic.

The Aces have now won three straight, sitting at 5-3 overall and 3-0 in district play. They now enter their bye week, returning to action on Oct. 21, when Owensboro Catholic hosts McLean County at 7 p.m.
