The field is set for the Boys and Girls Soccer 3rd Region Tournament starting on Monday Oct. 10, as Owensboro Catholic girls and Daviess County boys will have a first round bye. Meanwhile the Lady Panthers meet Meade County for the first time this season and Owensboro will look to beat the Eagles for the second time this year.
The Lady Aces closed out the regular season at 15-5-1 overall, three-peating with a 9th District Championship while sitting at 9-0 in region play and 8-0 in district play. The Lady Aces will have their first game 5:30 p.m. on Monday, taking on the winner of Muhlenberg County vs Grayson County.
Setting high expectations for themselves at the beginning of the year, Head Coach Andy Hines and company feel as though the draw sets them up for the opportunity of a long postseason run.
“I think the draw is perfect,” Hines said. “We are excited about it and think we have a good shot to be back at state. That has been our goal all season to make it back to state.”
Daviess County on the other hand was the runner up in the 9th District, falling to the Lady Aces 1-0. They own an overall record of 11-8, already sitting three games above their 2021 win total.
The Lady Panthers will see Meade County to kick off the 3rd Region Tournament, facing a Lady Waves team that is 9-6-4 overall on the season. Daviess County will look to beat the Meade County once in their first round game on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The Davies County boys team will have a bye week as the No. 1 seed, taking on the winner of Grayson County and Muhlenberg County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Owensboro on the other hand will take on Ohio County at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, taking on an Eagles team that they built in their season opener. Following the draw, Head Coach Ryan Haley and his team is excited to get started with the 2022 3rd Region tournament and gain some valuable experience.
“For us, who we play makes no difference at this point. We have a goal and we are extremely excited to meet that. At the beginning of the year our team (players and coaches) set a goal in July, basically three months ago, to play in the regional championship game. With that goal, the idea that anything can happen from there is how we move forward.”
Despite facing an Ohio County team that owns a 14-6 record, Haley and the Red Devils feel that they have what it takes to come out on top Sunday.
“Ohio county is a good side that has a quality roster with kids that fight for games,” Haley said. “They will definitely test us. If we win, where we’re headed, that will be much needed experience. We overall, we believe we are ready. “
