Tyler Nickol showed his stuff this weekend at the Cedarville Invitational, shooting rounds of 69-75-71 to tie for fourth with a 215 (-1). This is is the lowest 54-hole score of his career, and is just the second time a KWC golfer has shot under-par for three rounds since 1992. The last took place in 2011, when Patrick Hibbs shot a 215 at Murray State.
After an very good 69 in his opening round, Nickol followed that up with a 75 in round two to put him in ninth after day one. 14 holes into his third and final round, Nickol was struggling, sitting at three-over on the day. But then he went eagle-birdie-par-birdie on his final four holes to give him a 71 (-1) and put him under the even-par mark for the tournament. Nickol was the only individual in the tournament to finish with two eagles.
Finishing second on the team was Evan Beery, who came in 35th with a 232 (+16). Just behind him was Jonah Graham, who shot a 234 (+18) to tie for 40th. Playing as an individual, Harrison Sallee came in 48th with a 241 (+25), while Evan Shumacher tied for 49th with a 243 (+27). Ethan Lucas finished his tournament with a 265 (+49).
Both the men’s and women’s golf teams will travel to Lebanon, Ill. next week as they will play in the Bearcat Dual Gender hosted by McKendree. The tournament will take place at the Far Oaks Golf Course and will take place on Monday, Oct. 17 and Tuesday, Oct. 18.
