An Owensboro man has been charged with fraudulent firearm transaction, a Class D felony, after falsifying information while attempting to purchase a handgun according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to a release, on Friday detectives with OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation after receiving information regarding a convicted felon attempting to purchase a handgun at a local firearms dealer. Through investigation, detectives determined that Kenneth W. Givens had falsified information on an official form in an attempt to purchase the handgun and was in fact a convicted felon out of Tennessee.

“The Owensboro Police Department continues to work closely with our federal law enforcement partners regarding attempts to illegally purchase/possess firearms,” OPD said in a statement.
