Brescia Men’s basketball swipes first conference win from IU-Southeast

The Brescia University Men’s Basketball team picks up their first conference win against the Grenadiers of IU-Southeast, They improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in RSC play.

As the Bearcats tip-off for the first time in conference play this season, Tay Smith would start the BU scoring with a fastbreak layup off of a Grenadier turnover. Back-to-back three pointers from Carrieun Mathis and Tay Smith would stretch the lead to five over IU-Southeast. The Bearcats wouldn’t stop there as they continued to pressure the IU-Southeast offense forcing six turnovers in the first half. Before halftime, the Bearcats would go on a 13-6 run to extend the score to 51-45. Tay Smith would lead the team with 28 first half points, shooting 5-6 behind the arc.

Coming into the second half, the Bearcats would continue to outscore the Grenadiers as Zion Brown and Tay Smith would combine for 17 points in two minutes. The IU-Southeast defense was no match for the Bearcat shooters as BU takes their first conference win, 87-75. 

Tay Smith finished with a career high of 38 points while shooting 6-9 from downtown. Zion Brown totaled 14 points while shooting 5-8 from the field and 4-6 from behind the arc. 

The Bearcats take the floor again at home on Saturday, November 19th against the Eagles of Midway with a tip-off time of 3:30 pm.
