Panthers shooting from deep pushes them past Wildcats

Daviess County boys basketball shot its way to a win in its season opener on Monday night, having three players finish in double figures and getting 30 points from beyond the arc in a narrow 63-60 win over Edmonson County at home.

Tied 34-34 at halftime, the Wildcats outscored the Panthers in the third quarter to go into the fourth with a 50-48 lead. But Daviess County was able to outscore Edmonson County 15-10 in the final quarter, as their 10–19 shooting from deep helped them come away with the 63-60 win.

On top of their prolific three-point shooting, the Panthers were able to hold the Wildcats to 4-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior Gage Phelps led the way with 18 points on 6-12 shooting on the night, while senior Jack Payne followed close behind with 15 no 6-12 shooting (2-6 from three) and senior Evan Hillard added 11 points and seven rebounds

On top of those three finishing in double figures, Daviess County got 57 points from its bench in the win. Now sitting at 1-0, the Panthers will have a few days off before they host Trinity (Whitesville) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
