The E-gals were able to grab its first win of the season on the road Tuesday night, holding Webster County to single digits in the first and fourth quarter in a 56-38 win.

Apollo was able to hold the Lady Trojans to a single three in the opening quarter, allowing them to take a 17-3 lead into the second. But the E-gals were held to single digits themselves in the second, as their lead was cut to 26-17 going into halftime.

Apollo returned the favor in the fourth by holding Webster County to four points, allowing them to come away with the 56-38 victory to snap their three-game losing streak. Freshman Kennedy Lane led the E-gals with 21 points on the night—with 10 of them coming in the fourth—while junior Jenna Dant finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds and sophomore Gizelle Whitlock finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Apollo now sits at 1-3 overall with its first win of the 2022-23 campaign, now turning its attention to its first district matchup of the year against Owensboro at 6 p.m. at the Sportscenter on Friday.

Owensboro vs Muhlenberg County

Owensboro was able to close the night out strong despite a rough start against Muhlenberg County, as the Lady Devils defense in the fourth helped them seal the deal on a 54-44 win.

Neither team got off to a strong start offensively, as Owensboro held a narrow 6-3 lead following the first quarter. Both teams traded points back and forth in the second quarter, matching each other’s offensive production as the Lady Devils took a 21-18 lead into halftime.

Freshman Unique Carter-Swanagan led the charge in the second half, scoring 12 of her team-leading 17 points. Pair that with a defensive effort in the fourth that limited the Lady Mustangs to 11 points and Owensboro was able to wrap up a 54-44 win at home to extend its winning streak to four games.

Senior CJ Paige was the only other Lady Devils to finish in double figures with 14 points, drilling a pair of threes in the process. Owensboro improves to 4-0 to start the season, as they will look to take its momentum into their first district matchup of the year against Daviess County at home at 5 :30 p.m.
