Coming off of another stellar year for Daviess County’s Grant Broughton, he has earned the title of the Owensboro Times 2022 Boys Golf Player of the Year—receiving the honor in back-to-back seasons.
“I am pretty happy with how I played this season, however, I wish I would have finished out the season better,” Broughton said. “I’m so honored to receive this award two years in a row, and I am so happy knowing that I have so many people supporting me throughout my golfing career.”
Broughton led the way at semi-state for the Panthers with a round of 77 (+5), helping him qualify for state for the second straight season. He proceeded to finish 33rd at the state tournament, shooting a 155 (+11).
While Broughton would’ve liked to have finished much higher at state, his player led to him being selected as the 2nd Region Player of the Year. Making state once again was one of his goals this season and he was able to accomplish that and more because of hard work outside of game action on the links.
“Some keys to my success this year were definitely all of the work I put into golf and all of the hours I spent every day making my game better,” Broughton said. “This season I really enjoyed traveling with my team and getting the opportunity to play in so many different tournaments, that is something I look forward to every year.”
Broughton said that he wanted to have as many under-par rounds as possible in the 2022 campaign and going into next year he hopes to continue to improve on his game and return to state for a third straight season. And while his efforts in increasing his skillset were key factors in his success, he would be remiss if he didn’t thank those who helped him along the way this season.
“Next season I hope to become more consistent in every aspect and to continue to have confidence in myself and my game,” Broughton said. “I want to thank all of my teammates, my coach, my family, and my friends for supporting me every day and giving me the motivation to be as good as I can be.”
