The Raiders offense was clicking on all cylinders on Friday night, as four players finished in double figures to spoil Ty Price’s 35-point performance in a 74-72 road win over Butler County.
Trinity (Whitesville) got off to a strong start in the game, holding Price scoreless in the first while senior Landon Huff chipped in nine points to help the Raiders take a 16-10 lead into the second. While Price came alive for 13 of the Bears’ 17 in the second quarter, it was senior Gavin Howard’s four threes that led Trinity to take a 37-27 lead into halftime.
The Raiders remained on fire from deep coming out of the locker room, as senior Nathan Hernandez hit three triples and scored 11 points in the third to keep a 52-43 lead going into the fourth. Butler County exploded for 29 points in the fourth thanks to a combined 27 from Price (19) and Justin Castlen (eight), but Trinity (Whitesville) also had its best quarter of the night with 22 points and was able to hang on for the big 74-72 district win.
Huff and Hernandez led the Raiders with 20 points each on the night—combining for four of the team’s 10 threes—while Howard finished with 17 and senior Landon Smith chipped in 10 in the win. Trinity remains undefeated at 4-0 with its first district win of the season, as they will now have a few days off before hosting Owensboro Catholic at 7:30 p.m. in the 3rd Region All A Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
