Strong defense throughout as well as a balanced scoring attack were the keys to success for Trinity (Whitesville) on Friday night, snapping a two-game losing streak with a 58-42 district win over Edmonson County at home.
It was a slow start for the Raiders on the night, but a pair of threes helped them jump out to a narrow 12-9 lead following the first quarter. Trinity got three more from deep in the second—two from sophomore Hayden Aull and one from senior Nolan Mills—growing its lead to 30-21 heading into the locker room.
The Raiders didn’t skip a beat following halftime either, as senior Nick Goetz knocked down a pair of threes and Mills hit another to help them take a 47-33 lead into the fourth. It was then that the senior duo of Nate Hernandez (six) and Landon Huff (five) that combined for all of Trinity’s points in the final quarter, while they held Edmonson County to single digits again to wrap up the 58-42 win.
Huff and Mills led the way with 13 points each, while Hernandez had 11 and Goetz and Aull chipped in six each. The Raiders improve to 8-6 and 2-0 in district play with the win, as they’ll look to grab a second straight home win before a five-game road stint when they take on Crittenden County at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
