In honor of National Poetry Month, the Daviess County Public Library is planning to publish a chapbook featuring original poems by Daviess County residents. The library is currently collecting submissions from community members who would like their work included in the chapbook.
Through April 15, residents 13 and older can submit up to two poems to the library. Details and the online submission form can be found at dcplibrary.org/dcpl-poetry-chapbook.
On April 25, the library will showcase the work of these local poets at a special ceremony featuring spoken word poet KennyFresh. KennyFresh is a published author and literary enthusiast who uses his poems to encourage readers and listeners to view the world from a fresh perspective. His poems cover topics including mental health, identity, and the power of words to help us find our place in the world. After his performance, attendees will be invited to read the poems they submitted to the chapbook. The event is open to anyone who wants to celebrate and share their love of poetry.
“We hope to have the chapbook published sometime this summer,” said Teen Librarian Sarah Jacobs. “We will add a copy to the library shelves, and we will also have copies available for purchase. We encourage anyone who is interested to submit their work. We want the chapbook to be a true reflection of the people of Daviess County.”
