A 24-year-old Daviess County man is facing multiple charges in connection to an April incident where five people ages 17-22 overdosed on cocaine laced with fentanyl in the 500 block of Camden Circle, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
After DCSO’s Special Investigations Unit conducted a nearly 3-month-long investigation, Jonathan Storm Martinez, of the 100 block of Lakewood Drive, was arrested Monday on charges including trafficking in cocaine and fentanyl, along with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Martinez was also arrested on two outstanding arrest warrants.
Officials on Monday said Martinez sold a quantity of cocaine laced with fentanyl to individuals that were going to a party. Five individuals overdosed but all survived.
According to a previous release, DCSO deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of Camden Circle around 12:45 a.m. on April 8 in reference to a suspected drug overdose with CPR in progress. Upon arrival deputies, along with members of AMR Owensboro and the Daviess County Fire Department, located two young adults suffering from an overdose associated with cocaine.
Deputies said that one female subject was completely unresponsive and was having CPR administered by someone on scene, and that one male subject was in and out of consciousness. Both subjects were transported by AMR to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital to receive further treatment.
While continuing their investigation, deputies were informed of a third subject being brought to OHRH by personal vehicle, according to the report. While at the hospital, two additional subjects were brought into OHRH in reference to a cocaine overdose — bringing the total to five affected persons, with one of the five being a juvenile.
DCSO said the victims include three males ages 22, 19, and 18, along with two females ages 19 and 17.
Deputies reported that through investigation they discovered all five subjects were connected to each other. Deputies said they were informed by hospital staff that the cocaine was suspected to be laced with fentanyl.
