It may be hard to believe, but Owensboro Times officially launched 5 years ago today. While our focus has always been on Owensboro-Daviess County, more than 6 million people worldwide have accessed our site. We are filled with gratitude for all the milestones achieved thanks to community support, and we have exciting plans for the future.

Founded in 2018 by a group that wanted to revolutionize local news, OT is the only locally owned news source in the region. We’re also the only one that focuses solely on news that affects Owensboro-Daviess County.

One of the primary goals has always been to provide the local community with timely, accurate, and unbiased stories — and we deliver it in real time because, in the age of the smartphone and social media, we know instant access is a necessity.

Over the years, OT has grown exponentially by creating a strong sense of connection with our readers.

Take a few of these stats, for example:

We’ve also been named “Best News Media” by Owensboro Living — a contest whose winners are decided by a public vote — for each of the three years since the category was introduced.

Your feedback has been key in helping OT understand and adapt to the wants, needs, and concerns of our readership.

“When we started 5 years ago, we knew that the community was eager for a new way to consume news and that they wanted to read more local stories. Based on the response we’ve had, we are proud to say that we have made a huge impact in addressing those desires,” said Ryan Richardson, OT Managing Editor. “We have a small but dedicated team whose mission is to provide the most accurate and relevant stories to our community, and we are truly grateful for every bit of support we’ve received so far.”

As part of celebrating our milestone, Owensboro Times has a big announcement coming soon. We can’t announce the details quite yet, but we can say community partners are joining us to help even further expand access to local news.

Looking ahead, Owensboro Times is in the early stages of plans to continue expanding our digital presence and enhancing our coverage.

“We’ve got a lot of great ideas on how to continue to adapt with the changing technology and media platforms,” Richardson said. “But at the core of all the we do, OT will always prioritize its position as a trusted news source for the community. We’re indebted to our readers for the growing support you’ve shown, and we want to only build on that relationship going forward.”
