A car wash and express oil change are coming to the south end of Frederica Street. The two businesses — Take 5 Oil Change and Take 5 Car Wash — will be located on the lot formerly home to Grandy’s in front of the now-closed Towne Square Mall.
The Take 5 co-development falls under the parent company Driven Brands. In a January release, the company said it had a pipeline of more than 50 co-developed locations set to open in the next two years.
Take 5 Car Wash is a tunnel-style car wash where patrons select the level of service, then pull in and allow the car to be moved through the tunnel during the cleaning. According to Driven Brands, the car wash was established in 2020 “on the foundation of delivering a fast, friendly, and convenient car wash experience with a customer- and people-first culture.”
Take 5 Oil Change is a quick lube service featuring a drive-thru concept that allows customers to never leave their cars. It offers an on-average 10-minute oil change service and ancillary services such as air filter replacement, wiper blade changes, and coolant exchanges, according to Driven Brands.
The car wash will have a single tunnel and will be located on the north side of the lot, according to a final development plan approved in June. The express oil change will have three bays and is located on the south side of the lot.
The lot is located at 4940 Frederica Street. It was purchased by Colorado-based Boing US Holdco, Inc. in May for $1.85 million.
Texas-based Jerry Kachel Builder, Inc. was issued building permits that show construction costs of $900,000 for the oil change building and $1 million for the car wash. Westerfield Electric and Comfort Design Heating & A/C, both local companies, are handling electrical and HVAC work.
The lot was formerly home to Grandy’s restaurant. The Grandy’s building was damaged by a kitchen fire in December 2021 and never reopened.
