Owensboro Catholic dominated the game from start to finish to beat Todd County Central 57-7.
They started strong with a 40-yard gain from Tutt Carrico right out of the gate. The Aces scored in the first drive from a short pass from Brady Atwell to Noah Rhinerson to open the score at 7-0.
The Aces showed no mercy in the first quarter as they went into the second quarter with a 37-0 lead. Along with a safety, touchdowns in the first quarter were scored by Miles Edge, Rhinerson who completed an 80-yard touchdown from a pass by Atwell, Carrico and Ebelhar.
The game continued to go Catholic’s way, as they only allowed Todd County Central two first downs in the first half. Catholic scored again with touchdowns by Vince Carrico and from a 57-yard touchdown by Kaiser Frick off a pass from Atwell. The Aces went into halftime with a whopping 50-0 lead.
The Aces eased off in the second half, but still made big plays on both sides of the ball. At the end of the third quarter, The Aces forced and recovered a fumble to keep possession going into the final quarter.
The Aces scored on their next drive, but it was called back for holding. They regrouped and scored their final touchdown later in the same drive with a touchdown pass from quarterback Dremail Carothers to Noah Onan. This season has seen Atwell as the star for the team, but Carothers made his presence known with his performance in this match. Aces head coach Jason Morris said his future is looking bright with the team.
“He’s a very good freshman quarterback who keeps getting better every week,” he said. “He played great tonight. The present and future is really bright for us at quarterback.”
With just two minutes left in the game, Todd County Central scored their first and only touchdown of the game from a 37-yard pass to make the final score 57-7. Atwell finished with seven touchdown passes to multiple receivers. After another blowout, Morris gave his thoughts on the game.
“It was a good team win,” he said. “Our offensive line played great and gave our quarterback ample time to make his throws. Our receivers made great plays all night. Our defense played well also, especially on our defensive line and linebackers. Then our secondary did a good job of staying disciplined in their coverages. Our special teams was also good, and we were really good on kickoff coverages. Andrew Garvin kicked it deep all night.”
The Aces remain undefeated and are now 7-0 in the season. They take to the field again at home against Edmonson County on October 13.
