Local elementary teacher Maggie Jagoe won a total of $30,833 in cash and prizes — including a trip to Curacao — during her appearance on Wheel of Fortune’s Teacher Week. She won nearly every puzzle and made it to the bonus round of her episode, which aired Friday night.
You can watch Maggie’s appearance on Wheel of Fortune on-demand. The show is available on multiple streaming services (check your local TV or streaming provider for options).
Jagoe teaches 5th-grade English language arts at Country Heights Elementary School and has more than 200 students between all her classes.
While Jagoe could not be reached for comment immediately after her episode aired, she did talk to OT earlier this week about her journey to get on the show on what the experience meant to her.
Jagoe traveled with both of her parents and her niece Briley for the taping of the Teacher Week, naming her favorite part of the experience as the people she shared it with.
Earlier this year, Jagoe was named the Daviess County Public Schools Elementary Teach of the Year. (She served as a teacher at East View Elementary School at the time of the award nomination and selection.) According to a release from DCPS, the Teacher of the Year awards showcase those who exemplify characteristics including “a passion for teaching and learning, a student-centered approach to all they do, an ability to develop and maintain positive relationships, a commitment to a growth mindset, and a dedicated team-player attitude.”
A release from Sony Pictures Television on Friday said, “Teaching is extremely rewarding for Maggie, and she believes that educators impact children more than most people, so it is important to support them and watch them learn and grow. At her school, every teacher must be on ‘Bus Duty,’ where they walk the students to the bus line and make sure everyone gets on safely. While some teachers do not enjoy their weekly duty, Maggie loves the job and volunteers to take extra shifts to meet more students and bring cheer and happiness into their lives.”
