The Owensboro Symphony will open its 58th season on October 21, and the slate of five concert series includes a Christmas performance, a Disney night, and themes with English and Arabian influences.
The opening night performance will begin at 7 p.m. on Cannon Hall stage in the RiverPark Center.
This series will be Music Director Troy Quinn’s seventh season with the Symphony. The 2023-24 season is presented by Owensboro Health.
“I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey, and the coming season will be full of even more exciting and memorable moments,” Quinn said previously. “There will be large orchestral works performed for the first time by the Owensboro Symphony, music from Disney, and concerts that will take you to faraway places such as England and Arabia. I believe there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
Quinn said the opening night program includes “a lush, romantic performance” of Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.” Australian-born French Horn player Andrew Bain, current principal horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will join the symphony and perform Eric Ewazen’s “Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra.”
“From the moment the music starts, you’ll be swept away on a journey that will transport you to new heights of excitement and joy,” Quinn said.
Concert attendees are encouraged to join Troy Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15-6:40 p.m. for a “Behind the Music” pre-concert conversation about the performance. New this year, Mitch Settle will join Troy on stage as the moderator. “Behind the Music” is designed to enhance the concert experience and provide insights into the music and music-makers performing on the program, and it is presented by Baird – The Settle Group.
Tickets for the opening night start at $45. For tickets, call 270-684-0661, go to OwensboroSymphony.org, or visit the RiverPark Center Box Office at 101 Daviess Street. Student tickets are $12.50 each, plus box office fee.
