Volleyball recap (Oct. 16): District Tournaments

Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic will go head-to head in the 9th District Championship on Wednesday after knocking out Apollo and Daviess County respectively. Trinity advanced to and will host the 12th District Championship match against Grayson County on October 17 after defeating Butler County. 

OHS 3, AHS 0

Owensboro controlled much of the match in their 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-21) victory over Apollo. This victory sends the Lady Red Devils to their first district championship in the program’s history.  

Chase Mather led the team on both offense and defense with 12 kills, two aces and 21 digs during the match. Ava Fincher and Anna Travis combined for a total of 33 assists created for the team. Fincher had 20 assists and Travis had 13.

Leading scoring for the E-gals were Ava Fazio and Abie Butterworth with 10 and nine kills respectively. Kelsey Dickinson led the team in digs with 19. Ahalia Ramirez set the offense up with 29 assists. 

OCHS 3, DCHS 0

Owensboro Catholic had no trouble besting Daviess County 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-10) to advance to the championship in hopes of retaining the district title. 

Leading the scoring for the Lady Aces was Blair Riney with eight kills, six aces as well as 18 digs on defense. Karsen Tipmore led the team in digs with 26 along with five aces. Kennedy Murphy set the team up with 33 assists during the match. 

Leading the Lady Panthers in kills was Gracie Meserve with four along with three blocks and one dig. Kayla Jones led the team in assists and digs with six assists and eight digs. 

THS 3, Butler 0

Trinity advanced to the 12th District Championship match after taking down Butler 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-12). 

Leading the match in kills for the Lady Raiders was Hannah Nash with 10 kills and three aces and Georgia Howard with seven kills and six aces. Kenzie McDowell led the team in assists with 22 along with five kills, four aces and four digs.
