Owensboro Catholic celebrated their senior night with a blowout 56-7 victory over Fort Campbell. Brady Atwell came up big in the first half with about 260 passing yards, and helped win the game early on with six touchdown passes to multiple receivers.

The Aces got things moving on offense quickly as they scored on their first drive. Atwell made a short pass to Noah Rhinerson who completed the 10-yard touchdown for the first of many touchdowns for Owensboro Catholic. They had a comfortable 34-0 lead after just the first quarter. Other receivers to make a touchdown reception in the first quarter were Elijah Blair with one and Tutt Carrico with two.

Also scoring in the first quarter was Major Pride who pushed through into the endzone with a one-yard touchdown. Aces head coach Jason Morris said this touchdown was a special one because Pride has been a part of the football program for a long time, so it meant a lot to honor him and the rest of the seniors on senior night.

“He’s been a part of the program his entire life, and his dad coached for 25+ years in the program,” he said. “To get him into the endzone on senior night was huge. All the senior receivers caught a pass, all seniors started on both sides of the ball and we scored touchdowns and didn’t give up. It was great to honor those seniors.”

The defense showed mercy as they made it very difficult for Fort Campbell to progress up the field. Following a 12-yard touchdown by Carrico that put the score at 27-0, OCHS forced an interception early in the first quarter that was picked off by Cameron Woodward. Their defense continued to make themselves big problems for the Falcons as they didn’t allow them to get a single first down for a majority of the game.

OCHS kept the momentum going in the second half as they started off with Atwell making a 33-yard pass to Waryn Ebelhar. Ebelhar made the difficult catch to take their lead to 41-0.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that Fort Campbell put their first and only points on the board with an eight-yard touchdown pass. The Aces closed out the game with a final score of 56-7. Morris said the team has done a great job so far this season at staying focused on one game ata time and not letting their now 8-0 record get to their heads.

“Next week’s game is huge against North Hardin, but our guys did not look past Fort Campbell tonight,” he said. “We knew we had to win the district first, and then we’ll worry about next week next week. It’s been a really different group of boys when it comes to focus. We haven’t had that day to where I’ve had to beg them to practice right. It’s a senior-led team that is focused. They know what future is ahead of them if they put the work in. They are deserving all of their credit right now.”

“Now we’re all focused on North Hardin. I tell the kids that winning is not easy. The scores make it look like it is, but the kind of work that we put in is not easy. We’re going to celebrate all of our wins, but for them, come tomorrow it’s all about North Hardin.”
