Amber Schrecker has been named the 2023 Cap Gardner Employee of the Year by the City of Owensboro. She has worked in the Parks and Recreation Department for 22 years, most recently as the Assistant Greens Superintendent at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Schrecker began working in the Beautification Department as a summer employee and was quickly found to be reliable, skilled, and willing to work in a tough outdoor environment, city officials said Tuesday during the presentation.

She went on to be a crew leader at the Owensboro Sportscenter from 2001-16. She has worked at Hillcrest Golf Course since then.

“She never shied away from a task and can always be counted on to offer assistance. Her knowledge, dependability, demeanor, and flexibility make her an excellent employee and a silent leader within the parks department,” Schrecker’s nomination letter reads.

This marks the 17th consecutive year of the Cap Gardner Award, which honors City employees who showcase exemplary work. Gardner served as Owensboro’s mayor from 1954-58.
