With Apollo having played their second-to-last game of the season yesterday in a 62-52 defeat against Logan County; only one gameday remains in the season after The Red Devils and the Aces secured wins and DCHS and THS suffered losses.
Grayson Co. 74, DCHS 58
Daviess County suffered a rare loss at home in their 74-58 loss against Grayson County.
Daviess County fell behind early after Grayson outscored DC 23-15. The second quarter saw Grayson extend their lead to 38-28. The Panthers struggled to get through Grayson’s defense in the third as they were outscored 17-11. Daviess County mounted a final offensive in the fourth quarter as they scored 19 points, but Grayson matched them with 19 of their own to close out the game at 74-58.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was Jonathan Moss with 2 threes and 21 points. Gage Phelps followed behind with 15 points, and he shot 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
OHS 71, Hopkinsville 63
Dayshaun Sanders and Keaton Hughes combined for 51 points to lead Owensboro to a 71-63 win over Hopkinsville.
Dayshaun Sanders got things moving in the first quarter with 3 threes and 11 points to help OHS to 19-16. The Red Devils were outscored by 1 point in the second quarter, but they held onto the lead and went into halftime at 32-30. Hopkinsville took the lead in the third quarter after scoring 16 points to Owensboro’s 12. Keaton Hughes came up big for OHS in the final quarter after his 11 points helped OHS outscore Hopkinsville 27-17 to win the game 71-63.
Sanders led the team in scoring with 3 threes and 26 points while shooting 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Hughes followed close behind with 25 points on the night.
OCHS 87, Warren East 60
Owensboro Catholic had 4 players score in the double digits in their comfortable 87-60 victory over Warren East.
Catholic had a slight lead early on as they held a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Aces extended their lead in the second by outscoring Warren East 20-13 to lead 33-24 at halftime. OCHS kicked it into high gear in the second half as Solly Smith, Tutt Carrico and Waryn Ebelhar each had 8 points to help outscore Warren East 30-17. They kept up the momentum in the fourth quarter and scored 24 points to close out the game at 87-60.
Leading the Aces in scoring was Ebelhar with 3 threes and 21 points. Luke Beickman followed behind with 19 points and went 100% from the free throw line shooting 7 of 7. Carrico scored 17 points and shot 3 of 4 from the line as well. Solly Smith also shot 3 of 4 on free throws to go with his 19 points on the night.
Breckinridge Co. 71, THS 53
Trinity hosted Breckinridge County in a game that ended with them defeated 71-53.
The Raiders secured a 1-point lead at the end of the first quarter after outscoring Breckinridge 13-12. Hayden Aull made 4 threes in the second quarter for Trinity’s 12 points, but Breckinridge scored 13 of their own to tie it up at 25-25 at halftime. Both teams came into the third quarter eager to take the lead as THS was barely outscored 19-17. The fourth quarter saw Trinity held to just 11 points while Breckinridge closed out the win with 27 points. The final score was 71-53.
Aull led the Raiders in scoring with all 15 of his points coming from his 5 threes. Will Hernandez followed behind with 12 points on the night.
