The Owensboro Symphony will attempt to take the audience on “an adventure to far-off times and places” with its “Arabian Nights” concert this Saturday, with cinematic music from popular movies including the likes of “Aladdin.” Then on Sunday, the Owensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra will hold their annual free concert at St. Stephen Cathedral.

“Arabian Nights” will also include music from films “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Exodus.” The evening will conclude with a performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade,” depicting the ultimate storyteller’s journey and enticing tales to win her Persian king.

“This music we are playing is about an incredible journey of love, excitement, and adventure,” said Troy Quinn, Music Director. “It’s some of the most romantic music ever written and I can’t wait to be on the stage at RiverPark Center with our incredible 75-piece orchestra bringing this music to life.”

The show begins at 7 p.m., though concert attendees are encouraged to join Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15 to 6:40 p.m. for a “Behind the Music” conversation about the performance. Behind the Music is designed to enhance the concert experience and provide insights into the music and music-makers performing in the program.

Tickets start at $45 and can be purchased here.

The concert’s premier sponsor is The Glenmore Distillery and corporate partners include Adams & Whitt Periodontics, PSC, and Independence Bank. Behind the Music with Troy Quinn is presented by Baird – The Settle Group. The Symphony’s 2023-24 season is sponsored by Owensboro Health.

The Owensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra will perform at St. Stephen Cathedral ( 610 Locust Street) at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Under the direction of Quinn, the concert will feature Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” and Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings.”

There is no charge for admission on Sunday.
