More than 2 dozen band programs’ indoor ensembles from across western Kentucky and central Tennessee will compete this Saturday at the Daviess County High School Indoor Spectacular.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. and performances will stretch well into the evening, with awards wrapping up around 7:45 p.m.

DCHS Band Director Nate Clark said the school has hosted the competition since 2018. He said 26 groups are competing this year.

“Audience members will get to see colorguard groups, then they’ll have the opportunity at the end of the contest to see a couple of indoor percussion ensembles. There are also three indoor winds groups,” Clark said.

Clark said groups are classified based on skills and experience.

“The more experienced groups will compete in open class, then groups that are primarily made up of elementary school or early middle school performers would compete in the novice category or the cadet category,” he said.

Awards are given to the first-, second-, and third-place groups in each classification. There will also be a fan favorite.

Clark said the Indoor Spectacular is a regular season competition.

“For a lot of groups we’re the first contest on their calendar,” he said. “In addition to the placement, each group will get feedback from the judging panel about how they can improve their show or improve their teaching process. This will culminate later in the spring in the championship event that’s hosted in Bowling Green.”

Attendance costs $12 for those ages 6 and older. Children 5 and under are admitted free. Concessions will be sold.

“It’s a pretty big fundraiser for the band,” Clark said. “The band boosters put together a great menu of reasonably priced items. We hope that everybody who buys a ticket will eat a meal with us.”
