The victim of the fatal shooting on April 9 has been identified.
The Daviess County Coroner’s Office on April 11 identified the person as Eugene A. McClure, 41, of Owensboro. McClure was pronounced dead at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. No other information about the victim was made available.
On April 10, the Owensboro Police Department announced that Samuel Lee Hamilton, 19, of Owensboro, is facing three charges including murder following the shooting.
According to OPD, at 9:12 p.m. on April 9 officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of East 20th Street, where a male victim had suffered a gunshot wound. AMR and Owensboro Fire Department administered aid after they arrived on the scene.
The victim was transported to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
OPD Criminal Investigations continued investigating the area, interviewing multiple witnesses, and processing evidence that led to Hamilton as the suspect. Detectives on the scene were able to locate the firearm and determined it had been stolen in 2023.
Hamilton is now lodged in Daviess County Detention Center. In addition to murder, he was charged with tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property (firearm).
