Motorists using the Glover Cary Bridge in downtown Owensboro should expect lane restrictions on Wednesday and again next week as crews prepare for and conduct the structure’s annual inspection.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, one lane of the bridge will be blocked from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 10 while crews clear brush from the bridge approaches. The work is being completed to provide inspectors access to the bridge’s substructure during next week’s inspection.
The annual inspection is scheduled for June 15-19. Inspection crews will be on site from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
During the inspection, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. The restriction is needed to allow crews to access the underside of the bridge using specialized under-bridge inspection equipment, officials said.
No nighttime work is currently planned. However, KYTC said inspections could be conducted between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday if weather delays prevent crews from completing work during the day.
KYTC is required to inspect the bridge annually to assess its condition and ensure it continues to operate safely.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the work zone. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
