Apollo hosted a double header at home against Carterville, IL and Castle (Newburgh), IN while Daviess County had a double header on the road against Elizabethtown and Central Hardin. Owensboro Catholic also saw action against Muhlenberg County.
AHS
Apollo were defeated in their first game 4-0 against Carterville. Carterville took the lead in the first inning with 1 run, and they extended the lead to 4-0 with 3 runs in the second inning. Apollo held Carterville scoreless for the remainder of the game, but they themselves would struggle as well as they were held scoreless for a final score of 4-0.
On the mound for the E-gals was Molle Julian with 2 strikeouts across 6 innings, and Hannah Holder who pitched for the final inning. Arianna Ramirez and Taylor both had 1 hit during the game.
Their second game saw them take on Indiana team Evansville Mater Dei in an 11-2 defeat. Castle had a commanding start to the game with 6 runs in the opening inning. Castle would score another run in the second before AHS got on the scoreboard in the third with 2 runs. After a scoreless fourth inning, Castle added 3 more runs to their tally in the fifth. A final run in the sixth by Castle closed out the game at 11-2.
On the mound, Holder had 2 strikeouts in 4.1 innings while Ramirez had 2 strikeouts in the final 2 innings. Mallory Velotta and Ramirez had 1 RBI each, and Apollo’s 2 runs were scored by Hannah Snell and Grace Parker.
DCHS
Daviess County had success in both games of their double header. They had no trouble taking down Central Hardin in an 8-0 win.
Daviess County steadily built up a 3-run lead through the first three innings. They tightened their grip on the game with another run in the fourth and 3 more in the fifth. They held Central Hardin scoreless to close out the game at 8-0.
Kamryn Timmons racked up 9 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits throughout 6 innings, and Story Hume had 2 strikeouts in 1 inning. Annie Newman hit a home run during the game to go with her 2 RBIs and 1 scored run. Molly Hancock hit a double, had an RBI and scored 2 runs. Danielle Beckwith hit a double, had an RBI and scored 1 run. Briley Henry hit a double, had 3 hits and scored 2 runs, and Shelby Bennett had 1 RBI. Kylie Clark scored 1 run as well.
The Lady Panthers had no trouble taking down Elizabethtown as they had a big 14-2 win. Both teams found success at the plate early on as Daviess County scored 4 runs and Elizabethtown scored 2. The score remained stagnant for the next two innings until the Lady Panthers extended their lead with 4 more runs in the fourth. DCHS put the nail in the coffin in the sixth inning with 6 runs to close out the game at 14-2.
On the mound, Sophia Cain had 5 strikeouts across 5 innings, and Hume had 2 strikeouts in 1 inning. Timmons and Callie Smith both hit a home run during the game. Timmons had 3 RBIs and 1 run to go along with her homer, and Smith had 1 RBI and 1 run scored as well. Newman hit a double, had 4 RBIs, 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Henry hit a double and had 3 RBIs as well. Hancock hit a double, had 2 RBIs, had 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Beckwith had 1 RBI and 1 run, and rounding out scoring for DCHS was Bennett with 3 runs, Avery Morris with 2 and Clark and Sadie Morris with 1 each.
Muhlenberg Co. 3, OCHS 0
Owensboro Catholic suffered a 3-0 loss at home against Muhlenberg County. Muhlenberg opened the game with 2 runs in the first inning. Owensboro Catholic kept Muhlenberg from scoring any more runs for the next 6 innings, but they struggled to find success at the plate and were held scoreless as well. With 1 final run in the seventh, Muhlenberg took the win at 3-0.
On the mound for the Lady Aces was Hannah Robbins who recorded 6 strikeouts throughout the game to help prevent Muhlenberg from running up the score. Hannah Tignor hit a double, and Kailey Hamilton, Harper Latham and Harper Rundall all had 1 hit each.
